The Cairo Geniza documents are an extraordinary historical source that has radically transformed our understanding of world history in the medieval period. This collection of documents was located in a room on the upper floor of the Ben Ezra Synagogue in Fustat, the old city of Cairo (Al-Qahira), the capital of Egypt, which was established on the banks of the Nile River in A.D. 969. This archive provides invaluable information about the daily life, economic transactions, cultural exchanges, and personal relationships of medieval society, which is not usually found in typical historical records.
